Is there a way to make a galactic map? What I mean is, our milky way is roughly 100,000 LY D by 1,000 thick. It’s a disc not an actual sphere. I know you can make a square map with those dimensions but I was wondering if a disc could be created.
You're not going to be able to make a map of galactic size - ours has 200 billion stars.
If you just want something disk shaped, you can use the squash script http://www.nbos.com/nox/index.php?action=1001&id=75
That wont create a 'true' spiral with arms, but will squash down a sphere into roughly a disk shape.
If you want a true spiral, thats something you'd need to implement in a script yourself.
Thanks for the script Ed. Yeah Im not going to really try that but I was wanting to put together a Star Trek Map. I have been researching known ST space of all 4 quadrants. I'll be using the pdf I found on your site about how to build a large galaxy or empire by dividing it up.
Again thanks for the fast responce and script. You da man.
Peace.
