First off I am gonna post something I created with FM trial version.
Yes its really basic but I had fun with it.
Anyways I was considering purchasing FM8, but I am currently using a my laptop from work. Now I am not gonna go into all the details, but long story short is if I purchase FM8 on this computer can I transfer it to a home machine?
Second I have seen some of the many maps Mark has created and I was wondering is that a part of the standard FM8 package? Like the buildings with tile roofing etc.
Thanks for your thoughts and reply's
Cheers
Matt

Yes.
Everything we use in our maps either is a part of the FM8 package or is free. The or is free part of the answer calls for a bit of explanation. After you do a complete installation of FM8, I'd suggest that you download and install the complete (free) CSUAC set of symbols. To do that, go here:
http://www.vintyri.org/CSUAC/
All the necessary information is available.
If you want the building symbols that we use, you need to install the complete, free Vintyri Cartographic Collection for FM8. Full instructions are available in PDF form. Go here:
http://www.vintyri.org/vintyri/vccindex_c.htm
If you want to learn how to use FM8 well in a few days time, download the tutorials. Start with the basics (free):
http://www.nbos.com/nox/index.php?action=1001&id=125
Then go on to the raster mapping tutorial, also free:
http://www.vintyri.org/vintyri/tu1.htm
In no time at all, you'll want more free symbols. The supply is unlimited. The raster mapping tutorial will tell you how to find them.
Also, just fyi, FM can be installed on up to 3 machines that are yours or where you're the primary user. For example, a work machine, a home machine, and a laptop you use while gaming.

I have followed the link to and began the process of downloading the fills and symbols. I have even gotten so far as to installing them. Once I open up FM8 I notice that the Fill patterns are available for use but the symbols are not.
Now I have installed the symbols into the MapArt file directory, and once I load FM8 I can see those installed directories in symbol set drop down. Only issue is that I am not seeing any of the symbols. I will give you an example of what I am seeing.
I currently have BL1_FM8 symbol set selected, and the only category is BL1_FM8 Creature. None of the symbols or sub-categories are appearing. None of the symbols of the extra sets I have downloaded are appearing.
Do you have any idea why this happening?
Thanks
Matt
Probably. Check your directory structure. It should look like this, with X being the drive where Windows is installed:
X:\
Program Files (Program Files x86 with 64-Bit Windows)
nbos
Mapper8
MapArt
BL1_FM8 Creature
(Individual PNG files)
BL2_FM8 Equipment Worn
(Individual PNG files)
BL2_FM8 Tools
(Individual PNG files)
BL2_FM8 Weapon
(Individual PNG files)
etc.
See if a missing level is your problem.
X:\
Program Files (Program Files x86 with 64-Bit Windows)
nbos
Mapper8
MapArt
BL1_FM8 <
This parent directory maybe causing the issues I will try removing this file in the hierarchy and see if that solves the issue
BL1_FM8 Creature
(Individual PNG files)
BL2_FM8 Equipment Worn
(Individual PNG files)
BL2_FM8 Tools
(Individual PNG files)
BL2_FM8 Weapon
(Individual PNG files)
etc.
I also need to go and check out the fills to make sure I have them all.
I was reading through the tutorial that came with the CSUAC symbols and fills, and notice that I didn't have the particular fills mentioned in the tutorial.
Thanks for the feed back
Matt
