Highest resolution maps

I'm wanting to export a FM map for printing or a PDF. I know you can export in three different types of files and different pixel sizes.

What's the best file type and best pixel size for an 8.5x11" piece of paper?

    For that size of paper, we've found that the end result continually improves up to a smallest dimension of 1360 pixels (i.e. 1814 x 1360, where 1360 is the smallest dimension, but not 1360 x 1020, where 1020 is the smallest resolution). For printing on paper, we export to PNG and then convert the PNG to a JPG with maximum compression of 10%. Our group has found no loss on paper of quality between the JPG and printing directly from FM8.
