Explain layers to me like I'm five.
I have managed to make it so that the stuff I want hidden shows up on every layer. If I change things to hide them, the rest of the map disappears, and the stuff I want hidden is the only thing left.
I have no idea how I accomplished this or how to reverse it.
Everytime I have tried to use the layers, I have had to undo everything to get the map back to something that makes sense.
The tutorials don't help. I have read them numerous times, and they might as well be in a foreign language. I understand all the words, but I can't make heads or tails of them.

Post your map file (.fmp) so that one can see what's happened. Without looking at the map, there's little that anyone can do.
