Effects and Fill patterns
The effects buttons seem to be inactive. Clicking on Fill Style, Bevel, Blur, etc. has no effect. I have the Vintyri, DA, and CSUAC mapper 9 fills in the Fill Patterns directory but nothing seems active. I vaguely remember a similar issue when I first started using Mapper 8, but don't remember the resolution to it.

The effects look to be working normally. Might be related to your startup problem. Is there anything showing in the drop downs (patterns, etc)?
No. The drop downs do nothing. The Mapping Symbols menus on the left hand side of the UI work fine, but not the effects menus on the right hand side.
