Jörðgarð Map No. 510 - Border Village of Draugsend

Jörðgarò Map No 510 of the pending Fallen Empire Trail adventure Trailsend takes the PCs to the border between the human undead-ruled Dreadlands March and the forbidding and mysterious elven Riddle Wood. The Villlage of Draugsend is a command center of the Andsmyrna Rebels seeking to overthrow the draugs (undead) who rule the land. The village is on the Riddle River, and the elven Riddle Wood begins on the opposite river bank. Draugsend is the PCs' last stop before entering the wood in their search for the dwarven smith Skarpi.

Key to the Map of Draugsend

  1. South Gate. There also is a North Gate east of the map's edge.

  2. Wooden Palisade Wall. The wall is 20 feet/6 meters high. It goes beyond the eastern border of the map.

  3. Housing. There are few families and fewer children in this border town. Most of these buildings have multiple residents who work in the village, are woodsmen, are members of the militia, etc. Some of these buildings also have small rental rooms for visitors from outlying thorps who come to town to buy supplies and need a place to spend the night before returning home.

  4. Apple Trees. A dozen years ago a nature druid who was passing through planted these trees. At harvest time the apples belong to whomever harvests them. Anyone may take apples, as long as they don't take too many.

  5. Compound Fence. This wooden fence is 10 feet/3 meters high. It surrounds the Andspyrna complex. The various buildings have gates on the road.

  6. Watergate. The Andspyrna has a grid here that goes to the floor of the Gátaánna River to keep invaders from entering the village by swimming underwater. A similar watergate is on the east side of town beyond the map's border.

  7. Olaf's Saddles and Tack. The shop belongs to Olaf, a human male merchant.

  8. Dæja's Smithy. Dæja, a human female artisan, is a master blacksmith who also can do respectable repair work with weapons. She employs two journeyman smiths.

  9. Fannlaug's Bakery. Fannlaug, a human female artisan, is a master baker.

  10. Erlin's Candles. Erlin, a human female artisan, is a master chandler.

  11. Hilmar's Butcher Shop. Hilmar, a human male artisan, is a master butcher.

  12. Last House Inn. The complex belongs to the human male merchant Gunnsteinn. It consists of the main building, a stable for guests' horses, a brewhouse, a woodshed and a storage shed. The four-story inn does considerable business, because those who come to town from the outlying thorps need a place to spend the night before returning home. It is unusual not only for its height but also for its guest rooms, which are on the 2nd and 3rd stories. Each story has five guest rooms with two to four beds each. This is the case because most guests who come from outlying thorps to buy supplies come as a group and want to share a room to save money. The smaller 4th story with the dormers is Gunnsteins' apartment.

  13. Pálina's Grocery. The complex belongs to the human female merchant Pálina.

  14. Borderland Supplies. The complex belongs to the human male merchant Klængur. On the ground floor one finds a large selection of non-perishable supplies. However, the selection is suited more to the needs of villagers and those living in outlying thorps rather than adventurers.

  15. Marketplace. Only a few peddlers, if any, come to the marketplace on workdays, and most of those who do come from the north of the Dreadlands. One must be careful what one says in their presence, because some probably sell any information that they think is useful to the draugs' minions. Such peddlers also may be there on weekends, when many artisans, craftsmen and farmers come to town to sell their wares.

  16. Andspyrna Compound: Gyða's Tower. The tower and cottage of the archwizardess Gyða, female high mage of the Andspyrna.

  17. Andspyrna Compound: Command Center of the Andspyrna.

  18. Andspyrna Compound: Guest Lodging of the Andspyrna. For high-ranking visitors.

  19. Andspyrna Compound: Gate to the Command Compound of the Andspyrna.

  20. Andspyrna Compound: Stable of the Andspyrna.

  21. Andspyrna Compound: Supply Center of the Andspyrna.

  22. Andspyrna Compound: Command Lodging of the Andspyrna. For officers of the resistance.

  23. Andspyrna Compound: Barracks of the Andspyrna.

  24. Kort's Sawmill. Kort, a human male commoner, works in the Andspyrna supply center. He inherited the tiny sawmill and still cuts lumber on those infrequent occasions when it's necessary to do so in Draugsend.

  25. Semaphore. This complex consists of two towers. To the south is a stone tower 70 feet/21 meters high and 20 feet/6 meters in diameter, connected to the stone tower by a wooden bridge. Other than ladders, its only contents are sealed pails containing variously colored powder. A bridge extends to the north tower. It is made of wood but also stands 70 feet/21 meters high and is 25 feet/7,5 meters wide on each side. Atop the tower is a stack of kindling wood and upon it a large stack of young tree trunks, each about 20 feet/6 meters long. This is part of a network semaphores. In times of trouble or need, one can ignite the kindling and throw a pale of one of the colored powders into the flames, which make them turn the color. The color defines the nature of the danger or the warning. Guards on other semaphores can see the flames and pass on whatever news that they convey. The guard members who maintain the tower watch live in the barracks (No. 23).

  26. Njólla's Mill. Njóla, a human female artisan, owns this important regional mill that hammers oil seeds and grinds flour for all the surrounding thorps and villages.
