Heliocentric Galactic coordinates

Do any real star catalogoues use Heliocentric Galactic Coordinates the way that AS2 does? What do I have to do to use other systems to create a set of AS2 compatible coordinates for objects like the Vela SNR and Gum nebula?

Thanks

  • Most catalogs provide position information using right ascention, declination, and parallax for telescope usage. You need to convert those to x/y/z coordinates for use in 3D space.

see Winchell Chung's Project Rho site for info on converting coordinates: http://www.projectrho.com/starmap.html
  • I was afraid of that. Alright time to work out an Excel sheet that will do that.

    Thanks.
