Datamining the Near Star lists
Any one else doing any datamining of the various near star lists?
I am interested in looking for concentrations of various kinds of stars and want to work from some of the larger lists. My idea right now is to run searches on Excel worksheets and when a hit is secured the position data is read and the distance from every other star that meets the search is derived. When that is done I would like to upload those lists to AS and have it map the positions of the searched for stars.
Pitfalls to watch out for? Formulae that work in Excel?

I found it very usefully and created my own data sets based on the HIP catalog.
