Astrosynthesis v3.0 on a Surface Pro running Windows 8?

edited November 2013 in AstroSynthesis General
Hi! I've bought and downloaded AS and it works fine on my Win 7 Desktop. I get access violations however when I try to get it to work on my tablet running Windows 8.

I've got Fractal Mapper v8 running fine on the tablet and installed it first.

Any hints...I noticed that Windows 8 isn't listed as officially supported in the specifications for Astrosynthesis.

  • Astro runs well under Win 8. Its likely some other problem related to the device.

I'd start with the usual troubleshooting steps of:

    - making sure you have the latest build (http://www.nbos.com/nox/index.php?action=1001&id=484)
    - make sure anti-virus software isnt incorrectly blocking the program
    - running Astro with administrator rights
    - running in XP mode

If those dont do the trick, send an email to the support address (support2 at nbos.com) with information about the actual error message.
  • OK, before I send that email I want to ensure I've actually done all of your list:

DONE - making sure you have the latest build (http://www.nbos.com/nox/index.php?action=1001&id=484)
DONE - make sure anti-virus software isnt incorrectly blocking the program
DONE - running Astro with administrator rights
Maybe DONE - running in XP mode

Do you mean run it in one of Window's 8's various XP compatibility modes or do you mean a virtualized XP mode under VMware as described here?

    Thanks for the assistance!

  • Got it working...I apparently just needed to update to Windows 8.1.

Not sure why it gave me access violations before update though...

    Thanks for your help!
