Jörðgarð Map of Week #175 - Kalervo's Feoff
With the 175th Map of the Week, we take a look at the haunted ruins of Kalervo's Feoff, once an outlaw settlement in the Badlands of Karelenland. This also is our last cartographic look at Karelenland. Next week, we move on to the Gold Coast.
The map of the Kalervo's Feoff:
Long ago, the outlaw Utamo overran the feoff of his brother Kalervo and attempted to slay all but one of its residents, that being a pregnant woman. Some of those who lived in Kalervo's Feoff escaped, but most were slain. Utamos's men destroyed and burned the entire feoff after butchering its inhabitants.
Utamo's raid had widespread tragic effects. Many of the people involved in these events found no rest after their deaths, and they resisted Hela's call, becoming ghost draugs. All also were drawn to the site of the original crime, Kalervo's Feoff. where Utamo unjustly slew his brother and most of his folk before destroying the feoff. All haunt the ruins of the feoff, demanding retribution for the wrongs that they believe were done to them. Those demands never will be filled, because all of those upon whom they want their revenge wreaked have been slain or have slain themselves. Only magic can dispel the ghost draugs. However, there are no spellcasters in the Badlands who can work such magic.
