It leaves me kind of stumped too. I've tried to duplicate your problem, but I can't. It sounds like something with your FM8 installation isn't working right. I'd suggest that you send Ed Diana a support request at

Do you have any idea why this happening?
Probably. Check your directory structure. It should look like this, with X being the drive where Windows is installed:

Now I am not gonna go into all the details, but long story short is if I purchase FM8 on this computer can I transfer it to a home machine?
Yes.
I was wondering is that a part of the standard FM8 package? Like the buildings w…
FM8 pulls its fonts list out of the font collection installed in Windows. If you want to add new TrueType fonts, you need to go the Windows Control Panel and open the Fonts tool to install new fonts. The font files need the extension .ttf.

I think you''re 100% right there. That's why it's important to make symbols before you need them, rather than grabbing them as second thoughts out of a map!
OK. I see what you're asking now.
1) If you want to draw an object and make it into a vector symbol, just do it, as you've noted, and save your work as a map in the symbol file folder where you want it to be. The menu action Create Symbol is …

That map looks awesome, Mark :-)
Thanks ... however, you folks programmed FM8, which makes such maps a simple and quick job. We certainly did not spend days making this one. With FM8, it was a matter of about two hours.
Another thing you might want to try ... if you want the real Gygax AD&D 1E look ... is mapping with symbols rather than drawing tools. I forgot who made these, but you can get the free Blue Classic symbol set for FM8 here:

I'm not sure what you're doing on a step-by-step basis. This is what you should be doing:
1. Click the menu option "Map."
2. Click the menu option "Map Setup."
3. In the dialog box named "Map Setup," click the tab "Background Image."

Of course it can, with one extra mouse click.

So the layer order doesn't matter from how they are viewed?
No.
The list order is just arbitrary?
It isn't quite arbitrary. It just isn't related to the hierarchy of objects on a map as they appear from top to bottom. It's…
